ISMICK'01

Eigth International Symposium on the
Management of Industrial and Corporate Knowledge

22-23-24 October 2001

Université de Technologie de Compiègne
   France

During the last 10 years Knowledge Management has been introduced and promoted in the Enterprise. Knowledge is now widely recognized as a major corporate asset. Knowledge management, and in a broader sense knowledge intensive organization and knowledge work, are of importance to organizations to secure competitive advantage. However, managing knowledge is not easy since corporate knowledge is spread amongst diverse resources throughout an organization and its environment, including related knowledge networks.

Since 1993 the ISMICK conference meetings are held yearly. They combine research, professional practice, and consultancy perspectives with respect to capitalizing on knowledge assets. The meeting attracts and mixes people from academia, business, and consulting firms, who often participate in lively confrontations involving theory and practice. Each year the conference addresses a different theme. In 2001 the conference theme will be: ROLE OF INDIVIDUALS AND ORGANIZATIONAL ISSUES IN KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT. ISMICK'01 begins with a one-day reserved to tutorials followed by a two day conference. During the ISMICK'01 conference, the following aspects of the overall theme will be addressed:

Human talent
At all levels in the organization, human talent as a source of knowledge management activities plays an eminent role. For this aspect contributions are invited on research and practical developments on human talent related to knowledge intensive organization(s), namely: on the position and roles of individuals, on their interaction, their cooperation, on the nature of human interfaces to KM systems, and on the role of actual and virtual human groups. A particular topic of interest is "reflection and individual learning" (feedback from the organization/environment).
Organization
This aspect is open to management perspectives. Contributions on new organizational forms in particular in the light of processes of knowledge development, eg. knowledge flows, knowledge management viewed from a strategic view point, are welcome. Of interest are the use of structural approach to establish innovation areas, build scenarios, creating support and consequently creating individual learning processes.
Economics
Again from the view point of the organization, knowledge has a value but also a cost. This aspect invites papers that address issues related to the knowledge economy.
A free aspect
The free aspect is open to interesting contributions related to the conference theme and relevant to the conference and beyond the scope of the previous three aspects.
