IMPORTANT INFORMATION : you can found an up to date Scilab Gtk version for 10.5 at the address http://scilabgtk.org/
Scilab for MacOSX
-----------------

1 - Scilab X11 version, for 10.4
--------------------------------
What you will found here (not at the above address) is Scilab bundles for Mac OS 10.4 and an old Gtk version for Mac OS 10.3.

This version takes the form of a compressed folder that you
just have to download. There are however three flavors here:

- Scilab-3.1.1 (archives Scilab-3.1.1.* above). This version will
be outdated soon, but still works like a charm. I provide a .tgz archive for users encountering problems with Stuffit Expander.

- Scilab-4.0,4.1 and 4.1.2 for PowerPC and Intel Macs,
Intel versions based on the Fink package.

These packages are based on the official 4.0, 4.1 and 4.1.2 sources.

Both versions are really self-contained and you should use these if
you are not especially concerned with graphics speed. These versions
are only compatible with 10.4.* and you need to install the Apple X11
server (on your Tiger CD).
DON'T LET STUFFIT OPEN THE ZIP FILE. SAVE THE FILE ON THE DESKTOP THEN DOUBLE-CLICK ON IT.

2 - Scilab-3.1.1, compiled with GTK, for 10.3
---------------------------------------------

This version takes the form of a fink package (see the details
in the "scilab-gtk" folder). It works fine under 10.3, but has
some problems (mainly with the keyboard) under 10.4. Anyway,
graphics is much faster than the X11 version. If you are concerned
with performance and can stay under 10.3, you should use this version.

INFORMATION
-----------

That's (not) all, if you appreciate using Scilab under OSX, you might
be interested by some Scilab software I am currently developping, (see
the stuff at URL http://www.lmac.utc.fr/~mottelet/scilab).

The most interesting is surely XMLlab (http://xmllab.org), as it
allows to develop (and publish on the web) really polished Scilab
applications, with powerfull gui's. Installing XMLlab under OSX is
as simple as executing a script in Scilab, so, if you have time,
give XMLlab a try, you won't regret it !
