Objectives and Research perspectives

Cooperation and interaction

We are interested in this framework in collaborative virtual environments in which it is possible to perceive and act on a 3D object, a “virtual model”.

Virtual reality for learning and systems tutorials

Our work aims automatic follow-up of the student, error detection and teaching feedback (educational features of virtual reality and methods of attendance to improve the learning process like the enhanced reality).

Behavioural modelling in virtual environments

Our work aims at modelling autonomous virtual characters equipped with autonomous behavioural processes and decision-making.

Virtual reality and knowledge

We are interested in the integration of knowledge and in its capitalisation in virtual environments.

Perspective substitution (Costech laboratory)

The substitution of perspective area of research had been developed within the Costech laboratory. Minimal digital environments essentially dedicated to tactile methods allow the systematic study of interfaces and the rules of individual or collective interaction. This research forms part of the work on sensorial substitution: information that is classically attached to sensorial input, for example sight, are delivered by another method such as hearing or touch. Immersive virtual environments allow a systematic study of original methods of perception that we can then create by modifying the traditional relation between our senses. By precisely controlling the interfaces and the rules of interaction we study experimentally the dynamics of perception of different forms of prosthetic perception. At the same time we study the specific contribution of the tactile method for the force feedback interfaces.
