SCOP (Dependability, Communication, Optimization)
In a world where systems interact with each other in increasingly complex ways, SCOP’s research is in the design and optimization of logistics systems and networked systems, together with safe and secure systems. SCOP’s areas of interest are dependability, security and optimization, and the interplay between these three aspects. Areas of application are in complex systems and systems of systems.
Research topics
Safe systems and secure systems

This research topic is concerned with managing uncertainty in dependability studies, fault tolerance, and the security of information systems.
- Managing uncertainty in dependability studies: applying the latest advances in uncertainty theory to the field of dependability
- Fault tolerance: implementing fault tolerance in autonomous systems (road vehicles, rail, and UAVs)
- Security of information systems: how this can be applied in vehicle networks, sensor networks, and more generally in any field of application where sensitive data are present
- Predictive maintenance: optimization in relation to utility functions
- Integrated safety/security approaches: implemented in sensitive communication-intensive areas (such as « the factory of the future » and transport networks)
- Cybersecurity in highly interconnected systems (Cloud, Internet of Things, etc.)
- System fault tolerance based on artificial intelligence
Communication systems

This research topic is all about communications in constrained networks, whether constrained by mobility or by limited resources in terms of computation, communication, or energy. Work relates to coordination and cooperation between nodes, as well as the diffusion, sharing, merging and acquisition of data.
- Dynamic mobile networks (vehicle and robot networks)
- Autonomous and energy-efficient networks
- Maximizing the availability of networks with limited on-board energy
Optimization of systems

This research topic revolves around managing a set of flows, using a network of resources to optimize a collection of metrics in a deterministic yet uncertain environment.
- Planning and scheduling
- Optimizing logistics networks and telecommunication networks
- Robust optimization
- Solving methods that take account of new constraints on the use of resources
- Exact methods for robust optimization in transport, water, energy, and telecommunication networks
